Resources: The Men Who Got Away

I'm a bit of documentary addict; I can't get enough of PBS. Over the years, they have had a series of great documentaries relating to the Balkans; including the groundbreaking "A Cry From The Grave" documentary on the Srebrenica massacre.

Unfortunately, the only documentary I have actually seen has been "A Cry From The Grave"; fortunately, PBS has some very detailed webpages on their other documentaries including video clips, interviews, journals and more.

This past spring "The Men Who Got Away" which focuses on Karadzic and Mladic aired, below is a very detailed website about the documentary (and includes a lot of video files as well).

Tell you what I'd like to see in Serbia as a documentary.

A doc about how many times Serbian politicians lied (with the timeline) to the Serbian people and the internationals concerning the location of Ratko Mladic.

In the period post 2003 I was one of those fooled into thinking that Mladic must have fled Serbia. In 2002 I heard a number of reports placing him in Valjevo (despite the lies from Serbian ministers). Before then I spoke to people who had seen him first hand in 2001 and early 2002. Since the end of 2002 I heard nothing.

In the last few weeks it unfolds that not only was he in Serbia but in the same town as me - Belgrade until early this year at least. He was located in New Belgrade and they even have addresses for him.

Laying aside his possible guilt and the charges I think it is a good thing that people (such as myself) get angry, very angry indeed, when we are lied to by politicians. I'd like to see how other Serbian citizens would react seeing such a doc.

On the other hand since its been the 'democatic' block that has been in charge of Serbia since 2000 such a programme might influence a decreased vote for the 'democratic' parties and an increase in support for the 'patriotic' ones.

Another tricky one.
